UK Aid supports energy efficiency campaign
UK Aid is funding the #ItStartsWithMEE campaign, which aims to promote efficient energy use among households and businesses across the country, local media outlets reported.
The campaign, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry, Carbon Trust and other partner organizations, seeks to support the country’s fulfilment of its commitment under the Paris climate agreement to keep energy consumption 20% below a BAU projection by 2030 and its goal to achieve a sufficient electricity supply.
The campaign will include knowledge sharing programs on energy efficiency and other programs that will be held online and via social media due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Facebook page “It Starts With MEE” has been created to share infographics, posters, knowledge sharing and educational videos and to provide information about webinars featuring Q&A sessions with market experts and successful businesspeople.
UK ambassador to Myanmar Dan Chugg said the contribution of a single person could make a remarkable difference, and emphasized the importance of promoting renewable energy and efficient energy use practices.
According to Ministry of Electricity and Energy data, only 56% of households in the country have access to electricity from the national grid, with the people of Myanmar having the lowest access to electricity in Southeast Asia.
